It’s double delight at Town Hall

A double-bill of dance duets will be staged at the Town Hall Theatre next Tuesday, November 14. The show, DX2, is being presented by Galway’s Dance Artist in Residence Ríonach Ní Néill in her other role as Dance Curator at Cork’s Firkin Crane.

One duet is from the award-winning Dylan Quinn Dance Theatre; the other is from Laura Murphy and Rob Heaslip. Both groups have made an international impact with their duet choreographies, and this double bill will allow them to showcase its complexity and diversity.

The first piece, TOST (SILENCE) sees Enniskillen based choreographer Dylan Quinn collaborate with German dance artist Jenny Ecke to explore the space between two noises, two happenings, two people. It marks nearly a decade of collaboration between Quinn and Ecke and is their sixth work together. TOST features set design by renowned Irish artist Paddy McCann, and a score by composer Andy Garbi whose music featured in the Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 15/16 fashion show in Paris. TOST challenges the viewer to inhabit the world of two people who are stuck between words and actions, and to explore the dark complex emotional space of silence.

A shared artistic commitment is also at the heart of the second work of the double-bill – You and Me, and You.

Laura Murphy and Rob Heaslip first met as dance students in 2005. In 2014, despite living and working in different countries, they created their first duet collaboration, Wunderbar, which they toured over two years, as far afield as China.
