Double delight for NUIG
NUI Galway Ladies soccer club were celebrating on the double recently after capturing the WSCAI Intervarsity Shield when defeating Ulster University in Athlone.
The squad, under the management of John Hynes Jr and Padraic De Burca, captutred the All-Ireland Premier Division title last month, and they added another national trophy to the cabinet when hammering Ulster University 12-0.
The side are unbeaten since the start of the season last September, scoring a staggering 48 goals while goalkeeper Louise Creavin has been beaten just five times in that period.
Team captain and final year Medical student Jennifer Byrne capped five years in the club with the double, to add to many All-Ireland titles, which she also represented the Irish Universities team last year.
A number of players are on the books of the Galway WFC side which is flying high in the Continental Tyres Women’s National League, such as Lisa Casserley, Shauna Fox, Aoife Walsh and Ciara Lynagh; while Rosa Shine of Corrib Rangers has spent six years with the club, and is heading to MIT in America in September.
