Donoghue and Kelly for hurling managerial jobs in Leinster

TWO struggling Leinster hurling counties have turned their sights west to fill vacant managerial roles.

Former Galway boss Micheál Donoghue, who led the county to a long-awaited championship triumph in 2017, has been handed a three-year term as new Dublin supremo.

Ironically, Donoghue quit as Galway manager after the Dubs had inflicted a shock championship defeat on the Tribesmen at Parnell Park in 2019.

Donoghue will be joined in the Dublin set-up by his former Galway coaches, Noel Larkin and Franny Forde, while ex-Westmeath manager Shane O’Brien from Cuala will also be part of the sideline team.

Offaly are also about to anounce a Galway man as their new manager. Portumna’s Johnny Kelly, currently involved with both Nenagh Éire Óg and Castlegar, is expected to take over from Michael Fennelly.

Kelly, who has served as a Galway U21 manager in the past, was Offaly’s coach during Fennelly’s three years in charge. It is expected that ex-Galway ‘keeper Colm Callanan will remain involved as well.
