Don Stiffe for Concert Hall appearance
Galway singer Don Stiffe will perform at the National Concert Hall as special guest with the Kilfenora Céilí Band and West Clare Set Dancers on Saturday, August 3 as part of the Summer@ NCH Festival 2013.
Don was featured on the Kilfenora Céilí Band’s latest CD, entitled Chapter 8, singing Galway Bay and Come by the Hills. That album was released last year when The Wall Street Journal described it as ‘a feat for the feet and a feast for the ears’.
Don’s own albums have brought him considerable success. He has toured with Irish-American band, Cherish The Ladies in Ireland, Scotland and America and in 2011 he was a finalist in the All-Ireland Talent Show. He also released his second album, Life’s Journey that year. A number of Don’s songs have been recorded by other artists, including Grosse Isle which was recorded by Sean Keane.
Last year Don toured Ireland and internationally with Life’s Journey, as well as guesting with the Kilfenora Céilí Band. Formed in 1909, the Kilfenora Céilí Band is one of the oldest céilí bands in the world. Its current line-up features four fiddlers (Anne Rynne, Annemarie McCormack, Eimear Howley and Sinéad Heagney), two flutes (Anthony Quigney and Garry Shannon), concertina (Tim Collins) and his wife on accordion (Claire Griffin) banjo and leader (John Lynch), drums (Sean Griffin) and piano (Fintan McMahon).
Tickets for the show at the National Concert Hall on August 3 are €25, €30, €35 (Choir Balcony €20), with concessions available. There is a 15 per cent discount for groups of 10 or more. Contact 01-4170000 or www.nch.ie to book.
