Dominick Street to get major facelift

DOMINICK Street in the city is to be given a major facelift next year after three decades of campaigning by local businesses and residents.

Next Summer, work is set to begin on a major pipelaying and road resurfacing project that could take up to three months.

Despite fears over major inconveniences, the plans have been welcomed by local traders, who said they will provide a much-needed boost for the area.

Already, Galway City Council has provided a total of 13 new lights on Dominick Street Upper and Lower. And next year, a new drainage system will be linked to Mutton Island, while ducting will also be put in place to avoid future road works in the area.
