DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENTS DOUBLE IN LOUGHREA

Incidents of domestic violence have doubled in Loughrea over the past year.

This week’s meeting of the town’s Joint Policing Committee also heard that thefts from shops and stores was up by 40 per cent.

Committee members also heard that a temporary drugs unit has been set up by the Gardaí in the town.

Superintendent Enda Walsh said the new unit has had a number of successes in arresting people in possession of drugs as well as intercepting deliveries.
