Dolan the destroyer as Galway crush the Deise

Galway        4-12

Waterford   0-8

GALWAY backed up their victory against Clare by making short work of a limited Waterford side at Kenny Park, Athenry on Saturday, a 16 point win seeing them sit nicely at the top of Group 1 of the All-Ireland senior camogie championship after two rounds of action.

Teenager Carrie Dolan was the star of the show, hitting 1-8 in an impressive showing, as a strong start from the Tribeswomen, who hit 3-3 inside the opening quarter, quickly put an end to the challenge of a poor Déise outfit.

Galway chose to play with the breeze in the opening half and within five minutes had already used the elements to open up a five point lead, Carrie Dolan tapping over two neat points in between having an attempt on goal saved by Ciara Jackman, only for Aoife Donohue to react quickly to bury home the rebound for the first of her side’s four goals on three minutes.

To their credit, Waterford were taking advantage of the absence of influential Galway midfielder Niamh Kilkenny with both Lorraine Bray and Cathriona McGlone setting up attacks by bursting through the middle, but it only mustered a single point from play by Niamh Rockett with five more attempts dropping into the hands of Sarah Healy between the Galway posts.

The Tribeswomen made Waterford pay soon after with two goals in two minutes half way through the opening period to leave the visitors with a mountain to climb, the first of which came following an almost scrum like battle for possession.
