DOGS WILL be banned from beaches during the day and jet skis will be banned on the Corrib if new bye-laws are introduced by Galway County Council.

Many activities — playing loud music, removing sand, stones and seaweed, lighting fires — will be banned on beaches under these bye-laws. And if introduced in full by the County Council, there is a strong likelihood that similar bye-laws will be passed by Galway City Council for their waterways and beaches.

As well as the introduction of bans on a number of activities on beaches, during June, July, August and September, the use of personal watercrafts (jet skis) and other personal fast power crafts will be further restricted and banned completely within 200 metres seaward and confined to a speed limit of 6 knots.

Jet skis will be banned all year round on Lough Corrib and tuition of surfing or any other water sport on any beach or close to swimmers will be banned unless it is done in accordance to Irish Water Safety standards.

Horses too are banned on beaches, as is filming for commercial reasons unless it is with the consent of the Local Authority. Severe penalties of…………………….
