Dog and owner in dramatic rescue on River Corrib
Galway City Tribune – A 27-year-old woman, who jumped into the Corrib to save her dog from drowning, had in turn to be rescued herself from the raging river by a unit of Galway Fire Brigade.
Sepi Sefy’s drama began as she was eating breakfast at Griffin’s Bakery in Galway city centre, with her dog, Whiskey, before she began her day at work.
She had tied the five-month-old Rottweiler to a chair while she paid for the food – when all of a sudden, Whiskey started running away, still tied to the chair.
She raced through Mainguard Street, past O’Brien’s Bridge – and having broken free of the chair – took off down the stone steps and into the water.
She then dropped her phone, took off her coat and swam into the river looking for Whiskey, who had injured herself in the process.
