Dock road to fully re-open next week

Galway bay fm newsroom – Hoarding that has blocked a lane of traffic along a section of the dock road has finally been taken down after three years.

It’s the first chink of light for motorists affected by the closure, as the two lanes could be re-instated as soon as next week after the road is re-surfaced.

The lane is closed to facilitate the construction of the multi-million euro Picture Palace cinema on the corner of Merchant’s road.

This afternoon, contractors JJ Rhatigan moved the hoarding off the road and in to the footpath.

A spokesperson for Solas, the group behind the Arthouse project, estimates that the second lane will be re-opened to traffic in about a week’s time.

The Picture palace is expected to open next May and is dedicated to screening Irish and international independent film.

City Councillor Frank Fahy says he hopes the second lane will help to alleviate Galway’s recent traffic problems
