The Far Flung Trio – violinist Katherine Hunka, accordionist Dermot Dunne and double-bassist Malachy Robinson – will kick off their national tour next Wednesday next, January 20, in Galway with a concert in Druid’s Mick Lally Theatre.

The performance will include music by Bach, Liszt, Kreisler, Piazzola, Offenbach, klezmer tunes and Edith Piaf songs.

This national tour, which will also see the trio visit Clifden’s Station House Theatre on Monday, February 22, is organised by Classicallinks, and features three of Ireland’s top musical performers.

Katherine Hunka is the leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra (ICO) and also has a successful solo career with major Irish and British orchestras. Most recently she toured Ireland with pianist Hugh Tinney and British cellist Guy Johnston. Katherine has been performing with Dermot Dunne since 2007 when they toured in China with the ICO. Dermot has performed in all of Ireland’s top venues and festivals including the National Concert Hall, Vicar Street and Belfast Opera House as well as at the BBC Proms. His diversity can be seen from his eclectic collaborations – he has performed with the Blind Boys of Alabama, Altan and Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins.

Malachy Robinson is a member of the ICO and also has his own groups, the Gregory Walkers and the Robinson Panoramic Quartet – he performs with period instrument orchestra, chamber music ensembles and is a member of the Crash Ensemble.

Tickets for The Far Flung Trio at Druid are €16 and available from 087 2809932 or online at druid.ie.

Tickets for their Clifden show are available at the door of the Station House Theatre and cost €10.
