Italy’s Trio di Parma will kick off a six-venue tour of Ireland at NUIG’s Aula Maxima next Tuesday, March 8, at 8pm.

The eclectic programme from the acclaimed group opens with Beethoven’s contrasting variations for piano trio on the theme Ich bin der Schneider Kakadu (I am the tailor Kakadu), from an aria in Wenzel Müller’s opera The Sisters of Prague. It will be followed by two works by French composers. One is by the lesser-known virtuoso Charles Valentin Alkan, his passionate piano trio; and the other is Camille Saint-Saëns’ sweet, melancholy Trio No. 2 in E minor.

The event is presented by Music for Galway. Tickets, €20 / €16 concessions and MFG Friends / €6 fulltime students, from Music for Galway 091 705962 or  Opus 2, High Street,  or at www.musicforgalway.ie

Meanwhile, soprano Rachel Croash (pictured) and pianist Nadene Fiorentini will present a programme of songs by Dvorak, Poulenc and a solo piece for piano by Chopin next Thursday, March 10, in the Meyrick Hotel at 1.05pm.

It’s the second last concert in Music for Galway’s Lunchtime series. Admission is €5 with a concert/lunch combo on offer for €12. This includes the concert and soup & sandwich special in the Meyrick’s Gaslight Brasserie. Pre-booking for the combo is essential. Call 091 705962 or email info@musicforgalway.ie
