Disconauts remember Mark with special live show

Disconauts bring their acclaimed live show – featuring DJs and a three-piece horn section – back to the Róisín Dubh this Saturday, January 31, their first visit to the venue in 12 months.

Down the years this horn section – Ben Edwards (trumpet), Mike Kearsey (trombone) and Steve Hamilton (saxophone) – have shared stages with some of best-known names in the music business, including Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Blur and Radiohead.  Since the boys’ last appearance in Galway they’ve been touring and recording with the likes of Paolo Nutini, Madness, Basement Jaxx and Robbie Williams.

The night is also a chance for the Disconauts to remember Mark Logan, their much-missed percussionist who passed away last year. This Saturday would have been his 51st birthday.

“First and foremost this Saturday night is a chance for us Disconauts to celebrate Mark’s birthday, our last gig together was his wonderful birthday night last January,” said Padraic O’Connor from the Disconauts. “More importantly, we will be launching a special charity night in conjunction with the Róisín Dubh for Mark, taking place on Friday, March 27. That night will feature bands and DJs from Galway and all over the country – all of whom will give their services for free – where all monies raised will go to three very worthwhile charities.”

■ Doors this Saturday night at 11pm, dancing tax €5.
