Disappointment overshadows Mayor’s first six months

DISAPPOINTMENT is a word that crops up several times in conversation with the Galway County Mayor, Councillor Peter Feeney as he reviews his term in office to date.
Just over six months ago, Cllr. Feeney from Athenry became the county’s Mayor and half way through his term he counts up a lot of disappointments to date.
“I’m disappointed that the N18 Gort to Oranmore motorway has been postponed and the possibility of the N17 Oranmore to Tuam and further to the Mayo border is looking more remote in the short term.
“The Galway City Outer Bypass decision is disappointing as it leaves south Connemara cut off from that National Road infrastructure but we should push for the funding for the project as it is.
“With the economic downturn and the shortfall in funding the greatest concern is to try and maintain the best services possible with the reduced budget. I’m disappointed that there will be severe pressure on areas like Community Development, the libraries and especially roads in the coming year.
“The whole N6 construction project has led to major local road damage which we are finding difficult to solve which is very frustrating to local communities…
