Digital detox only proves the world always turns full circle

It used to be said that you spend your teenage years wanting to appear older and the latter part of your life wishing you were younger – but that’s only one way in which we turn full circle in terms of our desires.

We yearn for sunshine in the depths of winter and, three days into the Irish version of a heatwave, we’re collectively crying out for rain.

And where once we dreamed of being able to, let’s say, have a phone that wasn’t connected to a chord and a wall so that you could contact the whole world on the move, now many think we have too much of this constant contact and they want to make it go away.

The simple thing would be to leave your mobile phone at home, but then what happens if you really do need to talk to somebody – or they need to talk to you?

Never fear, because the good people at Google have googled up a solution.

They’ve invented an envelope into which you place your phone.

It’s no ordinary envelope of course, and it’s tied into their very specific Pixel 3a phone – but it truth, with a bit of adjustment, this could work for any mobile device.

Google has provided a template for this envelope so that you can print it off yourself – with a basic keypad now over where your actual phone keys are.

This means that, when the user wants to take a break, they can place their phone in the envelope and seal it with glue.

Then they’ll only be able to dial numbers or answer calls, although there is a facility whereby you can create a little hole on the other side of your envelope to allow you to take photographs too.
