Twenty two years after winning their only previous Premier Division title, Salthill Devon are back at the top of the table as goals each side of the break in South Park on Wednesday night confirmed them as champions.

It has been a good week for the club, as they were crowned Connacht Junior Cup winners on Sunday and are in with a chance of a local clean sweep as they also feature in the semi-final stages of the Michael Byrne Cup.

The home side certainly made them work hard for their win on Wednesday night. They also did a bit of homework and brought the game to the tighter upper pitch in the middle of the Swamp, an unusual action maybe, but one designed to keep space at a premium and give themselves a chance.

Devon just started with six of the players who faced Ballinasloe on Sunday, but it was an opportunity for some of the squad players to get some merited game time, and they led 1-0 at the break as Lucas De Paula finished a Timmy Molloy corner from close range.

On numerous occasions in the second-half they threatened to increase their advantage, but a combination of good goalkeeping by Colm Power and solid defensive cover by Keith Lee and Denis Lydon continued to keep matters competitive.
