DEPUTY COUNTY MAYOR TO SPEAK AT INTERNATIONAL SUICIDE CONFERENCE

The Deputy Mayor of County Galway and 2012 national ambassador for Console says community is key to raising awareness on crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Councillor Peter Roche from Abbeyknockmoy will address the Console World suicide prevention conference in Croke Park, Dublin on Friday week.

It will focus on the role of the community, and will involve speakers from Ireland, the United States and Australia.

Console- the national professional suicide prevention and bereavement charity – is ten years in existence.

It offers a one to one service on a 24 hour day, seven days a week basis in Galway and has recently opened an outreach service in Swinford, County Mayo.

Peter Roche says local groups and organisations can play a key role in offering information on suicide prevention.
