FARMERS who received assistance last year from the Dept. of Agriculture with the completion of their online Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) submission, will be contacted by the Department in relation to this year’s application, Galway IFA has confirmed.

Galway IFA Chairperson, Anne Mitchell, told the Farming Tribune that the Department had confirmed that they (the Dept.) would be making the initial contact with these farmers in relation to their 2021 BPS and Greening Scheme application.

“Some farmers might have been concerned that due to the absence of the face-to-face clinics because of the ongoing Covid situation, they mightn’t be in a position to receive help from the Department.

“However, the Department have assured that farmers who were in contact with them last year as regards their application will be contacted directly by staff as regards the 2021 application. This is something we welcome,” said Anne Mitchell.

Last month (Feb. 18), the Dept. of Agriculture confirmed that opening of applications for the schemes with the deadline date set at Monday, May 17 – again this year, applications are online only.

The Dept. have advised farmers and their advisors to avail of the early opening in the scheme and not to leave their applications until close to the deadline date.
