Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Department of Education is being urged to clarify whether a site selected for a primary school in Knonknacarra will be used to relocate Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh.

City Cllr Donal Lyons has been advised by the City Manager that a site has been identified to advance to valuation and legal contract stage.

However the Independent Councillor has called on the Department to specify the school body to which the proposed site acquisition relates.

The project may also require a variation to the City Development Plan due to zoning matters.

In May of last year agreement was reached to build a 24 classroom facility for Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh, which would increase student capacity by 50%.

Cllr Lyons says clarity is now needed.
