Depleted Salthill have no answers

AS THERE wasn’t a huge weight of expectation on the shoulders of this patched up Salthill Devon side, their fall from grace in Saturday’s Ford FAI Senior Cup Second Round tie didn’t come as a major surprise.

The outcome was very much in line with what one would expect when a depleted local amateur side faces a national professional outfit. At Drom before a small crowd (which included two car loads of UCD supporters), the hosts played their hearts out but were still outclassed.

The concession of two poor opening half goals certainly took the wind out of their sails, but to Salthill’s credit they produced a much more competitive second half and only conceded the fourth in injury time.
