The Department of the Environment is being accused of using stalling tactics to delay funding an upgrade of the water infrastructure in Barna and the city.

Councillor Sean Kyne says the County Council has been told by Department of the Environment officials that they cannot approve a preliminary report until certain issues are addressed.

The officials say the population growth predictions are too optimistic in light of the recession.

They’re also urging the council to try and get more water into the pipes they already have.
