“Non payers are not to blame for cutbacks”.

That’s the message from a group of up to 20 demonstrators that have assembled outside County buildings on Prospect Hill this afternoon as part of a campaign against household and water taxes.

The protest is being attended by members of the United Left Alliance, the former Occupy Galway camp, and Free Education for Everyone.

They claim Galway County Council is attempting to lay the blame for essential service cutbacks on those who have not paid the household charge.

The city currently has a compliance rate of 72 percent, while the county has a rate of over 60 percent.

Five Gardai are monitoring the protest.
