DEMAND FOR GALWAY RAPE CRISIS SERVICES RISES
Date Published: 15-Aug-2011
The number of people using rape crisis services in Galway has increased dramatically.
A new report, published by the Galway rape crisis centre, reveals over 600 people used the service last year.
That’s 120 more people compared to 2009.
Over 300 of the clients attending last year were survivors of child sexual abuse.
The report also reveals some people are being forced to wait up to six months for counselling services at the centre because of a shortage in funds.
Executive director for the Galway rape crisis centre, Aoibheann McCann says they expect to see more people this year.
