DELAY IN AEOS PAYMENTS FOR GALWAY FARMERS BROUGHT BEFORE SEANAD

Galway Senator Lorraine Higgins has called on the Minister for Agriculture to accelerate payments under the Agri-Environmental Options 2 Scheme for Galway farmers.

The Labour Senator brought the issue before the Seanad this week and said that farmers have been waiting an unacceptable period of time and are struggling to manage farm budgets,

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney, Minister Sean Sherlock told the Senator that in all, 2 thousand 500 have received their payments for 2012.

He added that the high level of queries and outstanding valid claims have led to a delay but that additional resources are to be deployed.
