Galway Bay fm newsroom – The number of public order offences in the county has reduced by almost 40 percent.

That’s according to the latest statistics from Gardaí which were presented at a meeting of the County Joint Policing Committee.

The reduction in public order offences has contributed to a decrease in assaults, which are down by almost a quarter.

However, Senator Trevor O’ Clochartaigh raised concern that incidents of domestic violence in the county are up by 8 percent.

He suggested that groups such as the Rape Crisis Centre attend a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee to give a presentation.
