Decision on oil tanks within a week

FURTHER developments today (Tuesday) indicate that plans to have the festival village for the Volvo Ocean Race stopover at Galway Docks are on the right tracks.
A second delivery of oil is being made today at the new oil tanks ‘farm’ at the Docks, and last week the Galway Harbour Company confirmed that the final oil delivery had been made to the old tanks more than a week ago.
Eamon Bradshaw, CEO of the Galway Harbour Company, told the Sentinel that there had been very productive talks between themselves and one of the oil companies concerned, Topaz.
There had been concerns city wide that the 10 old tanks at Dock Road wouldn’t be decommissioned in time for the stopover, which takes place in little over 10 weeks. The decommissioning period could take between three to six weeks altogether.
