DECISION ON GALWAY AIRPORT CLOSURE EXPECTED WITHIN THE HOUR

Galway Airport is expected to remain open until at least 2 o’clock this afternoon.

The Irish Airport Authority will then decide whether or not to ground planes because of volcanic ash drifting towards Ireland from the North Atlantic.

The authority has already closed airports in Sligo, Donegal and Knock and they’re expected to remain closed for the rest of the day.
