DECISION ON CONTROVERSIAL UPGRADING OF MERVUE PITCHES DEFERRED
Date Published: 04-Dec-2012
The decision on the controversial upgrading works at Mervue playing pitches has been deferred for 6 weeks to allow more extensive consultation with residents
The planned works by St James GAA Club have divided the area and prompted 170 objections over fencing, traffic management and light and noise pollution
However a large number of these were withdrawn over the course of one day and at last night’s city council meeting councillors demanded more information on this
Councillors were also angry that a map of the amended plan was only given to them at the start of the meeting and that the proposed bowling area had been removed
The deadline for a decision by councillors on the part 8 planning application is January 14th, so the intervening period will be used to reach a compromise
Cllr Declan McDonnell told Galway Bay fm news its the most difficult issue he’s dealt with in his 21 years as a councillor
