Decadent on tour with ‘Eden’

Galway’s Decadent Theatre will present Eugene O’Brien’s award-winning play, Eden at Galway’s Town Hall Theatre from next Monday, September 16 to Saturday, September 21 as part of a 19-venue national tour.

This the powerful story of an ordinary relationship on an extraordinary weekend.  Billy and Breda are approaching their 10th wedding anniversary and Breda is determined that this will be the weekend that saves their marriage, but Billy is more concerned with Imelda, the beautiful young ‘ride of a thing’ he has his eye on. As the weekend approaches, Billy becomes more distant, while Breda clings to the hope that their anniversary weekend will save them.

Penned by the writer of RTÉ’s cult drama Pure Mule, Eden is a story of stale love and fresh lust in the Irish midlands.  It won Best New Play at the Irish Times Theatre Awards and Best New Play at the Stewart Parker Awards in 2001.

Decadent Theatre Company’s new production features Patrick Ryan and Lesley Conroy.

Patrick Ryan has worked with Eugene O’Brien’s work previously starring in RTÉ’s Pure Mule.He also appeared in David Pearse’s black comedy series,Trivia on RTÉ.

Lesley Conroy has strong connections with Eden, as she received an IFTA nomination for her supporting role as Eilis in the 2009 film version of the play. She recently starred in Lance Daly’s festival hit, Life’s a Breeze.

 Decadent Theatre Company has been attracting popular and critical attention for its touring productions of plays such as Faith Healer, Port Authority and A Skull in Connemara. The company was nominated for three Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2012.

This production of Eden is directed by Andrew Flynn. Set design is by Ger Sweeney, costumes by Petra Bhreatnach and sound design is by Carl Kennedy.
