Death of Connemara girl in alleged misdiagnosis case raised in Seanad

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway Senator is calling on Health Minister James Reilly to enter a debate on the role of the medical council in professional misconduct hearings.
Sinn Fein Senator Trevor O Clochartaigh raised the issue of medical misconduct complaints in the Seanad earlier today.
He outlined the alleged misdiagnosis case of a six year old Connemara girl.
Senator Trevor O Clochartaigh made reference in the Seanad to the death of six-year-old Ava Conroy from Connemara, who died in 2011 after alleged misdiagnosis.
He said that a precedent set by a previous High Court ruling, known as the Corbally ruling, has made the complaint process very difficult.
Senator O Clochartaigh says that a number of families like the Conroy’s do not feel they are getting justice under the current framework:
