Almost 600 dialysis and cancer patients across the West are to lose transport services to hospital from next month.

A letter has been circulated within the HSE West confirming that the ambulance Service’s budget for 2011 has been spent already.

The service is now reviewing all non-emergency and non-critical services and won’t continue them after July the 1st, while the review is underway.

This includes transport to UHG for 581 dialysis and cancer patients three times a week or more.

The Ambulance Service has now written to the Regional Director of the HSE West John Hennessy outlining the situation.
