CSO statistics show Ballybrit tops Galway City rent price chart
Ballybrit is the most expensive location in Galway City for private rented accommodation, according to new Government figures.
The latest Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) and Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) show that Ballybrit overtook Newcastle at the end of 2017 as the most expensive location in which to rent.
The figures are based on an average of all property types available to rent.
The report shows that the average monthly rent in Galway City at the end of 2017 stood at €1,050.
In Ballybrit, the average was just over €1,185 – that’s up by almost one-quarter on a year previously, when it stood at €959.
The next most expensive location in which to rent was Newcastle at €1,170 (down from €1,185) a year earlier.
The biggest increase in average rents was in Ballybrit at 23.5%, followed by Renmore at 16.5%, while Bohermore saw a decrease of 10%.
The cheapest location in which to rent was Ballybane at €832, followed by Doughiska at €917.
Over the past year, average rents in the city increased by around 4.5%.
Meanwhile in the county, rents average €940 per month at the end of last year, up from €902 twelve months earlier.
The RTB Rent Index is the most accurate rent report of its kind on the private accommodation sector in Ireland because it reflects the actual rents being paid, according to the RTB’s records, as distinct from the asking or advertised rent, which is the basis of other rent reports such as from Daft.ie.
