Cruinniu steers a successful course

THE forecast of heavy rains for the whole weekend was mercifully off the mark for Kinvara and the sunshine and showers that prevailed during Cruinniu na mBad did not radically disrupt the events of the annual festival.
The rain for Sunday lunchtime was off-putting but the afternoon sunshine made amends.
Padraig ó Duinneen, who launched Cruinniu on Friday evening, addressed a plea to the government to assist the fishing industry and ensure its long term future.
In the main events, the sight of the gleoiteoga mora and the baid mhora competing under full sail gave an impetus to the appeal of these traditional craft. Land events were equally popular.
Recent crowds of visitors came to the festival but there was a feeling in the town that the forecasts of bad weather…
