CROWD GATHERS TO WATCH FERRY TRANSFER AT GALWAY DOCKS
Date Published: 16-Apr-2011
A large crowd has gathered in Galway Docks to watch the latest attempt to load two Aran Ferries onto a cargo ship.
The operation to transfer the Clann Eagle One and Clann na nOileain ferries onto the deck of Danish cargo ship Thor Gitta began around 7 o’clock this morning.
Slings have been secured by divers under each ferry and they’re expected to lift out of the water around 1.15pm approx.
The ‘Thor Gitta’ is still under arrest by order of the High court, but is expected to set sail on Sunday.
The ferries have been dogged by bad luck since the MV Pantanal ran aground in Casla Bay over two weeks ago, and three men were injured on board Clann na nOilean last week.
