A Galway county councillor has criticised the lack of fire fighting facilities in the Connemara area.

At present there is just one fire station in Clifden, which is the largest town in the region.

Clifden fire services assisted in a number of gorse and bog fires at the weekend, including a major forest fire in Recess.

Councillor Seamus Walsh says Connemara needs more than one fire station.
