Galway Bay fm newsroom – Crimestoppers has issued an appeal for information about the theft of paintings from a church in East Galway.

Six paintings were taken from St Peter and Paul’s Church in Kiltullagh exactly a month ago on the 22nd of June.

It’s understood the keys to the back door of the church were stolen a week prior to the theft of the valuable paintings.

Artist Evie Hone was commissioned to paint the scenes in 1946 and they have hung in St Peter and Paul’s Church since then.

They depict the scenes from the third, fourth, fifth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth Stations of the Cross.

Anyone with any information about there whereabouts is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25, which is offering a substantial reward.
