Crime in city down by 10 per cent

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Crime in the city was down last year, according to the latest garda figures.

At a meeting of the City Joint Policing Committee, Chief Superintendent of the Galway Garda Division, Tom Curley said that incidents of reported crime were down 10 percent last year.

More than 6 thousand 700 incidents of crime were reported in the city and Salthill between January and December.

The most significant Garda crime figures for the city are in relation to detection of drugs.

Incidents of drugs for sale or supply, or simple possession of drugs were up by just over a quarter on the figure for 2012.

Chief Superintendent of Galway Garda Division, Tom Curley told FYI Galway that heroin is a significant concern.
