An overcrowded primary school in Claregalway has been successful in its bid to build more classrooms to accommodate its pupils.

Cregmore National school has been granted approval to build two new resource rooms, overriding appeals to block the developments.

Cregmore national school was initially given the all clear to build the two resource rooms, and an on-site car park late last year.

However, nearby residents lodged last minute appeals to the plans claiming the classrooms would be too close to their homes, and would cause noise and nuisance and devalue their property.

An Bord Pleanala considered these objections and has now given the plans the all-clear, at the same time refusing permission for a sports hall.
