Courthouse could fetch €10m

THE courthouse in Galway, which is expected to come on the market within the next couple of years, could fetch in the region of €10 million.
This week, the Courts Service confirmed that they were actively looking at the options of either moving to a new site on the edge of the city or of acquiring a purpose built city centre property.
Property experts say that while the courthouse site does not have any retail potential it could possibly be transformed into a ‘super pub’. However, they also say that it would be most suitable for municipal or civic purposes and is a building which should be purchased by Galway City Council.
Stringent efforts are currently being made to acquire a site for a new state of the art courthouse in Galway with the Courts Service saying that the existing courthouse is not sufficient for the current requirements.
