Galway Bay fm newsroom – A court in England has heard claims that some of Claregalway resident, Dana Rosemary Scallon’s, family were out to derail her presidential election campaign.
Harrow Crown Court is hearing evidence in the trial of Dana’s brother, John Brown, who’s accused of indecent assault in the 1970s.
Earlier in the trial, the court heard claims that Dana had told a mother of an alleged victim that he was ‘cured’ after visiting a priest.
According to today’s Irish Independent, Harrow Crown Court has heard evidence from Dana’s other brother Robert Brown who says he learned of the allegations against John Browne in 2003.
He told the court he advised his brother to deny the claims and go to America, otherwise it would ruin the family’s reputation and Dana’s election campaign.
Defence Counsel for John Browne, Martin Bowyer, suggested that Robert Browne wanted the story to come out and had contacted a journalist with the Irish Independent about it.
Mr Bowyer suggested that Robert Brown and Dana’s other sibling, Ellen Bradley were targeting Dana in a row over the inheritance of their mother’s house.
John Browne is accused of 5 counts of indecent assault against two girls in the 1970s.
The hearing continues today.
