The Galway Fringe Festival, which runs from July 9-25, will feature a host of events including Couples Counselling, a new play by Athenry man Giles Brody which stars Republic of Telly’s Edwin Sammon.

Couples Counselling is a farce about a compulsive liar who asks his eejit friend to pose as his psychiatrist for a relationship counselling session. The show’s first run in Smock Alley was enthusiastically received by audiences and fellow comics alike.

Giles and Ed previously collaborated on the Athenry based RTÉ online show Student Teacher. The school sitcom which was produced by Galway city man, Rory Walsh of Spire Productions, was a runner-up in the 2012 Storyland competition.

Since then, Giles Brody has written for a number of television programmes including Irish Pictorial Weekly.

As well as being the newsman on Republic of Telly, Ed Sammon is an accomplished stand-up and actor. His latest role was as Fr Gabriel on the RTÉ sitcom Bridget & Eamon.

The other cast members of Couples Counselling include some Ireland’s funniest talents including Letterfrack comedienne Hannah Mamalis, Diet of Worms star Philippa Dunne and Stephen Colfer of the online comedy group Dreamgun.

The play is at Nuns Island Theatre from Friday next, July 15, to Sunday, July 17, at 8.30pm nightly.

Tickets are €10 and are available from the Galway Fringe  Box Office @ Galway City Gallery, Victoria Place Eyre Square or online at http://www.galwayfringe.ie where details of other shows are also available.
