COUPLE CRITICAL AFTER NORTH GALWAY CRASH

A man and a woman are fighting for their lives after crashing into a truck in North Galway.
The collision happened on a country road shortly after 1 o’clock this afternoon at Toomard Cross, about two miles on the Creggs side of Newbridge.
Three ambulances and two patrol cars from Roscommon Garda station attended the scene.
The injured couple were rushed to Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe, where they’re both reported to be in a critical condition this evening.
The driver of the truck has been taken to Roscommon County Hospital but his injuries are not believed to be serious.
A senior Garda accident investigation unit and Garda scenes of crime squad are currently carrying out a technical examination of the scene.
Gardai at Roscommon say the road between Newbridge and Creggs near the Galway – Roscommon border will remain closed for several more hours.
