COUNTY ROADS TO BENEFIT FROM RURAL ROADS INITIATIVE

Galway County Council says it intends to spend more on local secondary and tertiary road repairs after being given greater discretion on funding allocation.

Transport Minister Leo Varadker today announced details of a new rural road maintenance initiative for 29 local authorities.

It means the county council now has discretion over 30 percent of its 8.1 million euro restoration improvement allocation – it had been 7 percent.

The amount now being reallocated to the council stands at over 2.4 million euro.
