County officials hopeful of government assistance in funding emergency storm repairs

Galway Bay fm newsroom – County council officials are hopeful that some government funding will be made available to support emergency repair works.

Acting County Manager Jim Cullen says significant damage has been caused to seawall defences and roadways.

Repair work is now focused on the coastline where varying degrees of damage are reported from Barna to Clifden, including the island community.

Both city and county managers have moved to thanks council crews for their efforts since the stormy conditions began on Christmas eve.

Acting County Manager Jim Cullen told FYI Galway that a full assessment of the damage will now be undertaken.

The Junior Finance Minister says funds will be made available to help those worst hit by ongoing storms.
