County councillor says centralised driving licences will be another SUSI

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The new centralised system for driving licenses will be ‘another SUSI,’ according to former Mayor of County Galway Tom Welby.

From the end of next month applicants from across the county will have to travel to the city to submit their documentation and have license photos taken.

There are currently between seven and nine people working in licensing at the county council, and the new centralised office – which will cover the entire county – will initially have a staff of two.

Cllr Welby says if the new office is located outside the city at Briarhill as suggested at this week’s meeting it will cause serious hardship.
