"Without Government support we won’t have an airport in Galway".

That’s the stark message from Galway Airport CEO Joe Walsh to the county council this week.

He says the Government’s Public Service Obligation which financially supports the Galway to Dublin route was critical to its survival.

There is concern the Government might pull the PSO from the airport as part of its cost-cutting measures.

Joe Walsh also said an extension to the airport in Carnmore would give them the capacity to get bigger jets and open up access to European Cities.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Mary Hoade got broad support for her motion calling on the Government to support Galway Airport and continue the PSO subvention.
