County Council seeks permission to expand council chamber
Galway Bay fm newsroom- Galway county council is seeking planning permission to expand the existing council chamber at the building in the city.
Last month county councillor Jim Cuddy said the local authority shouldn’t have to carry the cost of upgrading County Hall to accommodate nine extra members after the elections on May 23rd
200 thousand euro has been set aside in the 2014 budget to reconfigure the council chamber at Prospect Hill in the city.
Oranmore Area Cllr Cuddy says the money would be better spent on disability grants or essential repair grants for the elderly.
He says the chamber requires expansion as a result of the Environment Minister’s reforms and as such costs should not have to be carried by the local authority
The proposal to build the single storey extension to the chamber has now been lodged with the city council.
A decision is due in March.
