County Council reports net deficit for 2013 budget

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is running at a net deficit of over 120 thousand euro with 70 percent of the 2013 budget spent so far.

Head of Finance Gerard Mullarkey presented the financial report for the period ending September 30th at this week’s meeting of the local authority.

The adopted budget for 2013 is 126 million with 69% or just under 88 million euro spent to date.

The biggest expenditure arises from road transport and safety which accounts for 21 and a half million of the spend so far.

There’s still 10 million remaining of the adopted roads budget for the rest of the year.

Meanwhile 17 million of the 23 million budget for water services, and 10 million of the 14 million allocation for environmental services has been spent.

In terms of income, 75 percent of 17 million of the anticipated 23 million for commercial rates has been collected.

A meeting to adopt the 2014 budget for the county will take place next month.
