Galway County Council has adopted the budget for 2013.

The council has 127 million euro to spend on services over the next 12 months – that’s a 6 percent reduction on the 2012 budget of 135 million euro.

The priority expenditure areas reflected in the budget include roads and transportation at 35 million euro, and water services at over 25 million euro.

In view of the difficult trading conditions there was no proposal to change to Commercial rates which will remain static for 2013.

There was intense debate over plans to increase commercial water and waste water charges, each by 15 percent, but this was scrapped after an amendment to the plan.
