Galway County Council has agreed its budget for 2009, which will see a decrease of 2.5 million euro in Government funding.

At a meeting at County Hall last evening [15/12], it was agreed that the commercial rate for the county increase by 1.5 percent, despite the County Manager, Martina Moloney proposing a 2 percent increase.

The cost per cubic metre of water, which is 220 gallons, will be 1 euro, down from the proposed figure of 1 euro 9 cent.

Next year’s Budget, which was narrowly passed by 14 votes to 13, will also see a decrease in community, arts and heritage grants.
